The world famous artist Vincent Van Gogh lived a short but very bright life. He was unknown during his lifetime and became a real artistic legend after his death. Van Gogh did not receive a systematic art education, but thanks to his gift he was able to create genuine picturesque masterpieces that have become an artistic heritage and adorn the collections of famous museums and galleries in the world.
Perhaps Van Gogh’s creative heritage will soon be replenished with the painting “Landscape with Peonies”. The canvas belongs to the Cologne collector Marcus Rubrox. In 1977, he discovered a painting in the attic of his father’s house, inherited.
The owner of the painting believes that the canvas dates from 1889. Van Gogh wrote "Landscape with Peonies" just a year before his tragic death. Independent experts have confirmed the version of Marcus Rubrox, but experts at the Vincent Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam are in no hurry to agree with them. They argue that the technique of writing the canvas does not match the style of Van Gogh, and the picture is nothing but a skillful fake.
During the restoration of "Landscape with Peonies" Esther Monnik extracted hair that was under deep layers of paint. Hair 8 cm long, red color. The restorer is sure that he belongs to the artist. Now there is a unique opportunity to conduct a genetic examination and find out the authenticity of the landscape.
DNA analysis will help establish the authorship of the picture. According to The Daily Telegraph, experts will compare the DNA of hair found on the canvas and the DNA of living descendants of Vincent Van Gogh.
If a genetic examination confirms the affiliation of Van Gogh’s Landscape with Peonies, the cost of the painting will almost double and exceed $ 60 million. So far, the canvas is estimated at $ 39 million
