In European countries, it usually takes a certain period of time to live in the territory, to be integrated into society - to have work or family relations with a citizen of the country, to be law-abiding, to know the local language. In some countries, for example, in Switzerland, the requirements are more stringent - for example, you need to live in the same canton for several years, if you move, the waiting period for citizenship doubles. There are countries where obtaining citizenship is very difficult. An example is Japan, where most naturalized foreigners were able to gain their status only after marriage with a local resident.
