Little Bentley is a contemporary American writer working in the genres of mysticism and horror, writing under the pseudonym Philip Emmons. He is very popular in his homeland, readers put his works on a par with Stephen King's books.
Biography
Little was born in Arizona in 1960, a month after his mother saw Hitchcock's famous horror film Psycho. According to the writer himself, this is what determined his future. Larry, the father of the future horror master, worked as a teacher, and Rosanna's mother is an artist.
The family was poor, working. The son began to read and tried to write from early childhood, but at first he received school education, then managed to work as a window cleaner, a typesetter, furniture maker, assistant librarian, traveling salesman, photographer, and then he got a job as a journalist as a reporter and applied to the University of California Fullerton.
Little studied diligently, receiving a bachelor’s degree in communications and a master of literature, the latter being awarded to him for his debut novel “Revelation”. The same book was the beginning of his high-profile career.
Creation
"Revelation" - a novel about resurrected children and a terrible evil, crushing under themselves a small American town, praised Stephen King himself. The book was published in 1991 and received the prestigious Bram Stoker Award.
The Postman came out the following year, another odious horror story that takes place in a small town where a demonic postman lives. And although he himself does nothing wrong, except for sending letters that drive people crazy, outbreaks of monstrous violence in the town do not stop: beatings, murders, sexual crimes.
Little Bentley's books are written in an extremely simple language, and they harmoniously combine inexplicable events and the psychology of interesting characters, and a brave hero always comes out victorious. In addition to novels, Bentley writes short stories published in separate collections.
So, from the publication of his first book to this day, Bentley annually publishes one novel. "House", "Storage", "Call" - each horror buff knows these simple names, behind which are charming stories. The last Russian translation was the 2010 disappearance thriller.
It is curious that in 34 states of the USA bookstores are forbidden to sell Little books, nevertheless they are studied at many American literary colleges, and the name of the writer is known all over the world.
