The law on measures to counter sanctions of the United States and other “unfriendly” states was adopted in the third reading on 05/22/2018. Their 417 deputies 216 voted for him, only one abstained. By law, the government can introduce various economic measures in response to U.S. sanctions. Such actions may relate to:
- international cooperation;
- export of products;
- privatization and some other areas.
The initial draft contained 16 directions, inside of which was an indication of specific product groups, including food and medicine. But it was decided to exclude such transfers from the text. Thanks to this, the bill has become more general. After criticism from business, experts and relevant government agencies, the deputies finalized the draft.
By the third reading, the list of companies that could fall under the action of counter-sanctions was expanded. If in the first version measures were applied to companies with a foreign participation share of more than 25%, now they can apply to all legal entities. persons who are directly or indirectly controlled by unfriendly countries.
One of the sensational measures was the introduction of an embargo on products manufactured in the United States or other unfriendly states.
