The work of the national writer and playwright Yuri German was opened by modernist prose. The manner of writing of the Stalin Prize laureate then radically changed. A screenwriter and a recognized classic of Russian literature became one of the first authors of a family novel in Russia.
For the fortieth anniversary of his creative activity, Yuri Pavlovich German created stories, novels, novels, scripts, and plays. His main works are still popular. Films were filmed based on many of his books.
At the beginning of the career
The biography of the future writer began in 1910. The child was born on April 4 in Riga in the family of a military man. Mom taught Russian. For her husband mobilized for the war, Nadezhda Konstantinovna went with a 4-year-old baby. She became a nurse in a field hospital.
The childhood of little Yuri passed in the artillery division. Father finished his service as headquarters captain, head of the division. He mobilized, settled in relatives in Kursk and began working as a financial inspector.
Yuri while studying at school became interested in literature, began to write. He created a little poetry. They were printed in Kursk Truth. The editor recommended the boy not to waste time, but to start writing reports and essays.
Creativity continued the stories published in the newspaper Lgova. Soon, the young man switched to drama. At first he was a prompter in the theater, then he began to direct amateur performances, finally he composed small plays for staging
After graduating from school in Kursk, the graduate decided to continue his education in Leningrad. He entered the College of Performing Arts. At the same time, Yuri got a job at an engineering plant and continued to write. The first significant work was the novel "Raphael from the hairdresser." However, after completing the work, the seventeen-year-old author did not feel like a writer. This feeling came to him only 3 years later, after the publication of the second novel. Herman’s short stories “Sivash” and “Skin” were published in the youth magazine “Young Proletarian”.
Confession
German wrote essays on workers' factories and factories. After meeting with them at the enterprises, he decided to write a second novel. After the release of the Introduction, its author became famous. The protagonist is a chemical engineer. He finds himself in an atmosphere of enthusiasm, having arrived in the Soviet Union from Shanghai. Gorky approved the book, predicting to the writer a bright future.
A real event in Russian literature was a new work by German "Our Friends". He was among the first writers to write about the birth and growth of contemporaries.
During the Patriotic War, Yuri Pavlovich was a military commander on the Karelian front, and visited the Northern Fleet.
In the winter of 1942 a novel was published in the form of a diary "Far in the North". The writer was inspired by the topic of caravan postings. He created the play "Convoy". The prototype was a real person, the captain, thanks to the skillful actions of which a valuable load was saved from enemy raid.
Military action inspired the writer to create an epic book about Peter the Great. The author got acquainted with archival materials, read literature about Peter in the North, the construction of a fortress in Novodvinsk, Solombala shipyards, life of that era. At first, the play was conceived about the feeder Ivan Ryabov. Then the idea grew to a novel about the exploits of sailors in battles with the Swedes.
Significant works
Several essays were written about the birth of the Northern Fleet, and in October 1943 Yuri Pavlovich first presented the play "Near the White Sea." Her premiere took place in Arkhangelsk a year later. Success was an occasion to work on an epic novel. The first chapters were published in the autumn of 1945 in the newspaper Pravda Severa.
Readers first saw the work in 1952. The epic work tells about the creation of the Tsar of Russia. Among the characters there are many real historical characters, there are little-known and famous facts of the beginning of the reign of the king.
Already in peacetime, the prose writer decided to make his hero a person capable of thinking by universal criteria. In 1957–1064, he presented the trilogy about the physician Vladimir Ustimenko, “The Work You Serve.”
In the second part of “My Dear Man”, heroism during the days of the war of the Northern Fleet sailors is described. The final part of the trilogy "I am responsible for everything" was released in the mid-sixties.
In the late forties, a prose writer worked on the story "Lieutenant Colonel of the Medical Service." The work is dedicated to spiritual formation, fidelity to the cause. The main character, Alexander Markovich Levin, works as a doctor. He heads the surgical department at the North Sea Hospital. Even knowing that he is hopelessly ill, he continues to give all his strength to work, fighting for the lives of patients until his last days.
The writer created his works for both adults and children. Young readers received "Secret and Service", "Give a paw, friend." From the position of a seven-year-old boy, Misha, who remained in the city during the blockade, the story “This is how it was” was written about Leningrad.
