Starting conditions
Art historians and fans of stage creativity call Veriko Ivlianovna Anzhaparidze the same age. The biography of the famous actress is read as an exciting novel. The future People’s Artist of the Soviet Union was born on October 6, 1897 in a family of Georgian aristocrats. The older sister and brother were already growing up in the house by that time. Parents at that time lived in the sunny city of Kutaisi. Father, a descendant of an old noble family, worked as a notary. Mother was engaged in housework and raising children.
By tradition, the girl received primary education at home. Then she completed a course at a parish school. From an early age, she demonstrated musical ability. She performed songs that she heard on the street. And those that sounded from phonograph records. Together with her father, acting chairman of the city theater society, Veriko often visited the local theater. Parents and acquaintances did not even doubt that she would become an actress. When the girl turned 16 years old, she left for Moscow and entered the drama studio of the Maly Theater.

Creative activity
Veriko did not have time to fully complete a training course in a drama studio. The events of 1917 confused all plans, not only with the aspiring actress. Due to circumstances beyond her control, she was forced to return to her homeland. She was readily accepted into the troupe of the Georgian Academic Theater, which was located in Tbilisi. Despite the troubling times, the actors enthusiastically engaged in creativity. At first, Anzhaparidze did not get the main roles. In 1922, she attended an internship at one of Berlin's theaters. The experience gained served as a good help in the future career of the actress.
In the early 30s, Veriko served for several years in the troupe of the Moscow Realistic Theater. During her three years in the capital, she managed to play one major role in the play based on the novel by Maksim Gorky "Mother". The reason is simple - the actress could not establish relations with the main director of the theater Nikolai Okhlopkov. Over time, Anjaparidze formed an individual acting style. She could transform into any, even episodic character on the stage and attract the attention of the audience.
