The Holy Apostle Thomas is one of the 12 apostles of Jesus Christ. The name of the apostle from the Hebrew language means "twin." Bible scholars believe that the brother of Thomas was another apostle from among the twelve disciples of Christ - Judas, called Thaddeus.
The holy Apostle Thomas was the son of a fisherman of the city of Paneada, Galilee. Hearing the teachings of Jesus Christ, and also witnessing the miracles of the latter, Thomas left his fishing business and followed Christ. After the resurrection of Jesus Christ and the appearance of the latter to the disciples, Thomas did not believe the stories of what happened. Only after the Savior reappeared to the disciples and Thomas did the latter witness his faith in Christ as God.
The Apostle Thomas preached in Palestine, Mesopotamia, Parthia, Ethiopia, and India. There is a church tradition that the magi who worshiped the born Savior were baptized by him.
From the life of the Apostle Thomas it is known that he was not present at the burial of the Mother of God. Only on the third day after the death of the Virgin, Thomas was miraculously transferred to Palestine, where the apostle wanted to bow to the body of the Virgin Mary. However, the body of the Mother of God was not in the tomb. This meant that Thomas witnessed that the Lord took the Most Holy Theotokos with the body to heaven. After the assumption of the Virgin, Thomas again went to India. Here, with his teachings and miracles, he turned to Christ a multitude of people, baptized King Gundafor with his brother.
When the holy Apostle Thomas converted to Christ in Syndicius and Migdonia, the wives who served in the court of King Muzdia, and the wife of the king himself, Tertiana, the women did not want to live with their pagan husbands. The king became angry with Thomas and demanded him to him, insisting that the apostle turn his wives to his husbands. However, the apostle did not follow the king's command. The king ordered the torment of the apostle, but the torment did not harm Saint Thomas. After this, the king ordered the death of St. Thomas, stabbing the latter with spears. After the death of St. Thomas, the king's son was miraculously healed with the help of the earth from the grave of the apostle. After that, King Muzdiy was baptized.
Particles of the relics of the holy Apostle Thomas are in Hungary, Mount Athos and in India.
