Biography
Sergey Alexandrovich Teplyakov was born in 1966 in Novoaltaysk. His mother worked as a history teacher, his father was a geologist. From childhood, Sergey showed great interest in literature, in the humanities. Therefore, he decided to get an education at the Barnaul State Pedagogical Institute, at the Faculty of History, but did not finish it - he joined the army.
He served in Western Ukraine, in Chernivtsi and Ivanovo-Frankivsk, and also ended up in Chernobyl to clear up the accident. Two years later, he returned to Novoaltaysk and in 1987 began working as a journalist in the regional newspaper "Youth of Altai". Gradually rising up the career ladder, Sergey began to collaborate with the Altai Pravda newspaper and Altai television companies. And since 2005, he became his own correspondent for the Izvestia newspaper in the Altai Territory.
He interviewed famous people, conducted journalistic investigations, wrote theater reviews. He visited hot spots, wrote reports from there. And also revealed acute political and economic topics.
For example, when the events of 1991 happened in Vilnius, Sergey wrote reports from there directly from the scene. In 1994, Teplyakov traveled to Tajikistan during the civil war and there, with a risk to his life, he obtained information for the media.
When in 2000 five girls from Altai State University disappeared without a trace, he conducted an independent journalistic investigation. This pushed the investigating authorities to more active actions.
In 2005, Sergei Alexandrovich fell into serious binding. He interviewed Boris Berezovsky, who was wanted, and published an interview record on the Internet. In a conversation, Berezovsky uttered the phrase "power seizure of power in Russia." And then Teplyakov came to the attention of the FSB - they demanded explanations from him.
He also engaged in constantly writing about violations of human rights in the Altai Territory. He then already worked for Altai Pravda and wrote mainly about Barnaul’s problems: he raised the problems of targeted housing developments, illegal sale and purchase of land, defrauded real estate investors. From his pen came out a lot of sharp articles about squandering the budget with specific names, about violations in the resettlement of residents from dilapidated and dilapidated housing. Having gathered a lot of material about such violations, Teplyakov came to the conclusion that much in the region depended on the local authorities.
And the journalist began an investigation into the activities of the head of Barnaul Vladimir Kolganov. He wrote honest articles in local newspapers, posted his research on the Internet. As a result, in 2009 criminal proceedings were instituted against Kolganov. And in 2010 he was removed from the post of head.
Sharp materials Teplyakova spoiled a lot of blood officials of different ranks. When the governor of the Altai Territory Mikhail Evdokimov died in a car accident, he wrote about him. After the disaster at the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric station, he wrote about the mismanagement of those who allowed this accident.
Many of the materials that he collected about the life of the Altai Territory, he later placed in his books. And in 2015, for his work, he received the Golden Pen of Russia award from the Union of Journalists.
In the same year, another event happened: he was fired from Altai Pravda. Apparently, someone did not like the high-ranking journalist. At that time, a new leadership came to the newspaper, and Teplyakov’s information did not suit him. The uncompromising and “uncomfortable” journalist was no longer needed.

The hunt ended tragically for the officials themselves: seven of them died as a result of a helicopter crash. Teplyakov collected a lot of material about this event, published a number of articles on the subject in the newspaper Izvestia, and then put it all in one book. For the investigation of this case, he received the title "Journalist of Siberia."
