Biography
Pavel Antonov was born in Vologda in 1962 on the first day of May.
Having received the basics of education in a secondary school in the city of Karaganda, at the age of 25 he comes to the capital. Here, the future famous photographer enters the Institute of Culture. The young master wanted to get into the faculty of photojournalism, which he did. When he was still a student at the institute, he participated in two projects. One of them is Italian-Russian, which is called "Ilyich's Lamp". The project represents the underground direction. The second action was called "Slavic Project", it was created under the leadership of the director from Poland Jerzy Grotowski.
Career
In 1989, Pavel Antonov was invited to work as a full-time photographer at the School of Dramatic Art. This team was headed by the famous theater director Anatoly Vasiliev, who was also a friend of Pavel Ivanovich.
Here the photographer takes many successful pictures of the performances. These works were appreciated first at home, and then in Europe. The Swedish film and theater director, writer and screenwriter Ingmar Bergen himself, after such a success, invites the young talent abroad. So Antonov becomes Bergman's personal photographer and staffer of the Royal Swedish Theater.
Creation
Then Swiss television sends Pavel Ivanovich on a business trip to the city of Grozny. Here he photographs the leaders of the Chechen opposition. Among them: Aslan Maskhadov, Shamil Basaev, Movladi Udugov. Since then there were fights, Paul was wounded as a result of this mission.
But he got better. And two years later he painted several portraits of jazz performers from Russia.
In the same year, Antonov moved to New York. Here he also makes portraits of jazz musicians.
Then fate brought the unique photographer with Robert Wilson, who made a great contribution to the development of theatrical art of America. This meeting gave the artist the opportunity to make many multimedia projects. In parallel, he takes excerpts from the performances of the famous director. Since 2006, Pavel Ivanovich has been working in one of the American publishing houses, creating colorful covers for famous magazines.
