Instruction manual
1
Sherlock Holmes is a fictional literary character born of the power of imagination of Arthur Conan Doyle. The author devoted more than fifty stories and four stories to the adventures of his hero. In most stories, the famous London detective is accompanied by his friend and biographer Dr. Watson, who, with the light hand of Russian translators and filmmakers, turned into Watson. From the notes of the doctor, the reader also learns about Holmes's musical addictions.
2
The famous detective is an extraordinary and mysterious person. When he first met his future partner, Dr. Watson wonders for several days who his roommate actually is. He does not look like a scientist, although he sets up chemical experiments. He has a bunch of master keys at his disposal, but Holmes is also not suitable for the role of leader of the criminal community. Sherlock Holmes’s ability to play music leads Watson to a standstill. Only a few days after meeting the doctor finds out that Sherlock Holmes is a tireless fighter against crime.
3
Closer to meeting Holmes, Watson is surprised to find that the talented detective plays the violin superbly. This musical instrument does not fit in with other Sherlock Holmes addictions. Watson is convinced that the detective has extraordinary mental abilities, excellent knowledge of logic and his deductive method of investigating the most complicated stories. Why then doesn’t he build, for example, chess combinations in his free minutes, but plays the violin with pleasure?
4
Crime investigation for Holmes is a kind of art similar to music. Dizzy chases are rare in his life. The detective unravels a significant part of the affairs without leaving the living room of his apartment, which he shares with Watson. The picture of the crime gradually emerges in the head of the detective, who ponders for a long time on the facts known to him.
5
The course of human thoughts, according to Holmes, recalls the beauty of a musical play. That is why the detective, in moments of deliberation, takes up the violin and bow. Playing the instrument was not only a relaxation method for Sherlock Holmes, it made it possible to concentrate on matters that he had been intensively thinking about for long evenings.
6
Holmes not only owns a great violin, but also does not miss the opportunity to listen to famous artists. In the story "Union of Reds", the detective dismisses his evening to attend the concert of the famous Spanish violinist. From Watson's notes, the reader learns that Holmes prefers Wagner to all other composers. Quite an exquisite choice for a person who spends almost all of his time fighting the underworld of London and its environs.
