Someone calls them mercenaries. Someone good luck soldiers and "wild geese." These people try not to advertise their activities, but if an armed conflict flared up somewhere, there can be no doubt that the “dogs of war” from all over the world will immediately start reaching out for this place.
The activities of mercenaries, as a rule, are illegal or semi-illegal. They do not like mercenaries, because they earn their bread at the cost of blood, mostly someone else’s. There is an article in Russian legislation providing for a prison term of up to 7 years for such work. There are similar articles in the legislation of many other countries. Nevertheless, there are no fewer mercenaries; many regimes are eagerly resorting to their services.
To become a mercenary, you must, at a minimum, own some kind of popular military profession. Real combat experience is greatly appreciated. Many mercenaries know each other personally, keep in touch. Therefore, it is easy to get together when another conflict arises. A person without a reputation, military profession, or combat experience is usually not needed by anyone.
However, all mercenaries start somewhere. The easiest and worst option is simply to illegally go to the next war. If the newcomer is lucky and is not detained and sent to prison, he has a chance to get to the war zone. Then he can only hope that he can survive and gain the necessary experience. There is no need to talk about earnings in this situation; no one will pay good money to such a person. Most likely, you will have to fight for food and overnight and it is good if you manage to save something on the way back.
If a mercenary has a military profession and knows English, he has a chance to use the services of one of the foreign offices that recruit people for security services. For example, American Military Professional Resources Inc., Dyncorp or British Sandline International. You may be offered to work as a security guard in some of the third world countries, but it is quite possible that this is only a convenient cover and in fact you will have to take part in one of the local conflicts.
This option can be considered the most successful, as it will be possible not only to gain experience, but also to prove oneself in a certain way. Having proved himself well, a beginner can receive an invitation to another contract. From this moment begins his real career as a mercenary.
It must be understood that mercenaries, as a rule, are not attracted by the money they can get, but by the way of life characteristic of the "wild geese". Most of them are simply not interested in a dull gray life from paycheck to paycheck, they prefer war to it. Many of them have no families and do not build any illusions about their future, living today. It is unlikely that these people should be condemned, but there is no point in admiring them. Everyone in this world lives as he can and as he wants.
