The official name "International Criminal Police Organization - Interpol" was approved by the 1956 charter, which is still valid. A wide circle does not know much about the activities of Intrepol. Despite the existence of an official website and a number of departmental publications, the organization does not seek information openness and does not often talk about its victories in the fight against organized transnational crime.
Goals and objectives
“Our role, ” Interpol’s official statement says, “is to bring together and mobilize police around the world to work together to make the world a safer place. Our high-tech infrastructure and technical and operational support capabilities help meet the growing demands of government agencies for 21st Century Crime Fight."
Interpol is engaged in the international search of criminals, counteracts organized crime, human trafficking and drug trafficking, terrorism, and also fights against economic crimes, cybercrime, the spread of child pornography and the organization of "brothel" and other illegal actions.
Interpol fundamentally does not deal with issues related to the domestic policy of states, as well as crimes that relate to political offenses, which encroach on the sovereignty of countries. He does not interfere in military matters. Not involved in the department and religious strife, does not delve into ethnic conflicts.
The criminals on this planet do not have so many chances to escape from justice - out of 260 countries of the world, 190 are members of Interpol. It is the second largest intergovernmental organization after the United Nations. Each participating country has its own National Central (Territorial) Bureau of Interpol. In the Russian Federation, such a body was created in 1991 under the Ministry of the Interior.
