The granddaughter of the famous Soviet writer A. N. Rybakov and the daughter of A. A. Rybakov and the editor of the Znamya magazine, N. B. Ivanova, were born on December 6, 1973 in Moscow. It is clear that the creative environment in the family of Mary favorably affected the way of her thoughts and attitudes. That is why diligent studies in secondary school were followed by admission to the Faculty of Philology at Moscow State University.
Purposefulness and thirst for knowledge did not allow Rybakova to stop in the process of her education on obtaining a Russian diploma, and she continued her studies in Berlin at Humboldt University. And then there was the defense of a doctoral dissertation in philology at Yale University, teaching at the University of California (2005-2006) in Los Angeles and the University of California (2007-present) in San Diego.
Despite the fact that the formation as a philologist and all the professional activities of a native of Moscow took place in the USA, she received great recognition as a writer in her homeland. Maria Alexandrovna Rybakova in 2000 became the winner of the Eureka Prize (Moscow), and in 2004 she was awarded the Sergei Dovlatov Prize (St. Petersburg).
The author of many stories and five books published in the magazines "Friendship of Peoples", "Star" and "Foreign Literature", today is rightfully considered a literary genius in our country. Her debut as a writer took place in 1999 with the publication of the first book, Anna Thunder and Her Ghost (ed. Verb).
