Childhood and study
Kira Georgievna Muratova was born in 1934 in a small town in Bessarabia (at that time in the territory of the state of Romania). Her father, Yuri Alexandrovich Korotkov, was the secretary of the Communist Party of Romania. Her mother, nee Reznik, worked as an obstetrician-gynecologist, and several books on newborn care belong to her.
During World War II, Kira with her mother was evacuated to Tashkent, and her father was shot.
In 1952, Kira entered the philological faculty of Moscow State University, but the science of language seemed too boring for the girl. Therefore, she continued her studies at the directing department of VGIKA in the workshop of Sergei Gerasimov.
Director's work
In 1961, Kira Muratova was hired by the Odessa Film Studio. Here she met her future husband, Alexander Igorevich Muratov, also a director and screenwriter. At first, a noble man helped a young girl in her work. Together, they made two films - “At the Steep Yar” and “Our Honest Bread”. But soon Kira got accustomed to the profession and began to work independently. At the Odessa film studio, she released two films - "Short meetings" and "Long wires." Both of them were a kind of innovation in Soviet cinema, as they first drew attention to the inner experiences of the heroes, complex and ambiguous. The Soviet government was distrustful of the work of the young director, and the film "Long Seeing" was shelved until better times.
Kira Muratova was distinguished by a non-living character, so she was forced to leave the Odessa film studio and move to Leningrad. At the same time, Kira met her second husband, the artist Yevgeny Golubenko. He co-authored her next films - "Change of Fate", "Asthenic Syndrome" (he was awarded a special prize by the jury of the Berlin Film Festival and the "Nika" prize), "Eternal Return". After the premiere of the last film, Kira Muratova announced that she was leaving the cinema. She always had a special outlook on life.
Personal life
Kira Muratova was twice married. Her first husband is director Alexander Igorevich Muratov, her second husband is the famous Odessa artist Evgeny Golubenko. Both spouses helped Kira in the profession and were her best friends. The only child of Kira Muratova, daughter Marianna (her father - Alexander Muratov) died tragically.
