Polygraph testing, or a lie detector, is mainly used when hiring employees and is a separate “interview” with a polygraph examiner, a specialist who analyzes the polygraph data and separates the truth from the lie.

Instruction manual
1
Polygraph testing begins with the fact that several sensors are attached to the test object, which will monitor the psychophysical state of the person being checked on the lie detector. After this, the polygraph examiner will try to find the so-called reference points - the conditions in which you find yourself when you are probably telling the truth and you are probably lying. For this, the specialist asks his "client" elementary questions.
First, those that you cannot lie quietly. This includes topics such as name, clothing, skin color, and features that are typically common to all people. After that, on the contrary, the polygraph examiner asks to lie. This approach allows you to collect information about the state of the body at times when a person is lying and when he is telling the truth. Now you can start real testing.
2
A polygraph interview usually lasts two to three hours with short, five-minute breaks. There are usually no more than a hundred questions, but they are repeated periodically in order to collect the most complete and accurate information.
3
When hiring employees, the company executives are primarily interested in whether the candidate is taking drugs and whether they have ever taken them, nor can questions of theft and other illegal actions be avoided, even if this is a fine for moving in the wrong place. It is not necessary to lie at all - an experienced polygraph examiner, before a series of tricky questions, always suggests confessing everything himself, without the participation of a polygraph, while noting that "sincere confession" will be counted when hiring.
4
Sometimes there are quite personal questions about betrayal, friendship, dreams. Often, employers are interested in your attitude to others and higher authorities. This is not always pleasant, but too frank or intimate questions at the interview, as a rule, do not exist.
5
Can there be any decisions about whether the test person lied.
6
Most of the known methods of cheating a lie detector do not work today, and an experienced specialist can easily see the moment where the testers are trying to mislead the polygraph. Nevertheless, many manage to deceive both the lie detector and the polygraph examiner. But for this you need to have good nerves and try to deceive the polygraph examiner even at the stage of searching for reference points, confusing the program and its operator at the very beginning, when serious issues are still far away.
Useful advice
Do not pay special attention to the words of the polygraph examiner when he says that the veracity of the test is 100%. This is done so that the test person is especially nervous about issues that he wants to lie to.
