Start your search by contacting the military commissariat of your relative's place of residence. There is all the information about the troops in which the soldier was called up, and about all the movements of his unit. The duty station will make an official request. In the "Search" menu, enter the name, date, place of birth. You will receive a list of answers, among them there may be a cause of death and a place of burial.

The Russian State Military Archive can give out information about those who died during personal treatment or when contacting through the official website - rusarchives.ru, but be prepared to wait a long time for an answer.
