Gennaro Gattuso is a famous Italian footballer, and since 2013 he has also been a coach. 2006 world champion in the national team and twice winner of the Champions League in the “Milan”.
Biography
Gennaro Ivan Gattuso saw our world in 1978 on January 9, in the small Italian town of Corigliano Calabro in the Calabria region. From childhood, the boy wanted to play football, and his desire was approved by his parents. He began his ascent to the football Olympus with the football academy of the small club Perugia. After seven years spent in the youth squad, Gattuso made his debut for the adult team in the Serie A match against Bologna. In total for “Perugia” the rising star spent 10 matches in which he did not manage to distinguish himself particularly.
Career
In 1997, Gattuso was about to move to Scotland. “Perugia” agreed to transfer the player to one of the best clubs in this country - “Rangers”. Gennaro was very rude and aggressive, but thanks to the mentor of the new team Walter Smith, the guy learned to control himself and played the full season for the “Rangers”. For 34 matches, he even scored 3 goals.
Despite the positive dynamics of the player, he failed to stay in the team. Big changes took place on the coaching bridge, and Dick Advocaat came to the place of Smith, whom Gattuso himself called the second father. The new coach of the team could not come up with an effective application of the boy’s talents, and at the end of 1998 he was sent to the Italian Salernitana club, which at that time played in the country's top division. For 10 months in the team, Gattuso appeared on the field 25 times, but could not score goals.
In 1999, a crucial moment occurred in the career of Gennaro Gattuso - he was interested in one of the most prestigious clubs in Italy - “Milan”. In the same year, he first appeared in the colors of “Red and Black” in a match against London “Chelsea” in the Champions League. In the first season, he spent 22 matches for the new team and firmly entrenched in the base, steadily appearing in the starting lineup.
In total, for the famous Italian club Gennaro won 468 matches and managed to score 11 goals. The low effectiveness of the player is due to the fact that he played in the midfield and served as a destroyer. During his long career in Milan, the football player twice became the champion of Italy, won the Italian Cup and twice became the owner of the most coveted trophy at the club level - the Champions League Cup.
In May 2012, the permanent captain of Milan announced his resignation, and he bequeathed the coveted armband to Antonio Nocerino, who left the club in 2016. After a little more than a month, Gennaro announced that he would continue his career in Switzerland, in the little-known Sion club. Having moved there as a player, he also assumed the duties of a coach, saying that he had come to bring victory to the club and compete with the local hegemon Basel.
But alas, it was impossible to go beyond words, after 10 matches in which the team somehow scored 11 points, Gattuso was removed from the post of coach, nevertheless he continued to play for the team as a player. After the “Sion” he managed to train: “Palermo”, the Greek “OFI” and “Salernitana” where he began his football career. In 2017, he returned to Milan as head coach, where he continues to work to this day.
National team
Gattuso first appeared in the Italian national team in February 2000, in the same year he scored the first and only goal for the national team against England. In total, in the colors of Italy, Gattuso appeared on the field 73 times over 10 years. In 2006, after the victory of the national team in the infamous final of Italy - France, Gattuso became the world champion.
