From the biography of Gianni Morandi
The future famous Italian artist was born in the town of Mongidoro (Italy) on December 11, 1944. Gianni's father was a shoemaker, his mother a housewife. As a child, Morandi learned what poverty is. Means for life were not enough. After school, the boy went to work: he sold sweets and cleaned shoes. At the same time, he helped his father distribute newspapers and campaign materials: he was a supporter of communist views.
The boy's education was interrupted at the very initial stage. For further training, Gianni took his father. In the evenings, he read to his son the works of Marx, Chernyshevsky and Lenin. The father made efforts to hone his son's diction and native language. Errors and shortcomings were punishable by the deprivation of walks.
Already in his youth, Morandi tried to sing. At first he performed at family parties, then Gianni began to be invited to small concerts, where he sang for a fee. The fame of the songwriter soon became entrenched in the youth in the district.
