The beginning of a hobby for the theater
Dmitry developed a love of theatrical art when his close friend entered the directing department, headed by Pyotr Fomenko. This happened during the training of Dmitry at the Aviation College. A friend of Dmitry persuaded his friends to start studying in an amateur theater studio. Theatrical activity was first a hobby of Dmitry, and later the young man decided to get a profession in this area. Dmitry Sobolev tried to enter the acting department at the Moscow Art Theater, in GITIS and at the Shchepkinsky school. All attempts to enter the theater educational institutions did not lead to success.
Interest in the profession of a screenwriter
Sobolev thought a lot about his purpose and came to the conclusion that the actor’s career did not suit him very much. Entering the stage caused him discomfort and excitement. But he loved to compose scripts and carefully think through sketches. Dmitry decided that he would try to enter the drama department at VGIK. The first attempt to pass the entrance tests was a failure. A persistent young man tried to do the same a year later, and he was taken to the Faculty of Scripting on a free basis. The training process at that time was led by Tatyana Dubrovina and Yuri Arabov.
The career of a novice screenwriter began to develop during training in the third year. Dmitry got a job as a screenwriter in the production of Russian comedy. The film was directed by Maxim Vorontsov. In 2005, Dmitry created a script for a short film.
"Isle"
As a student, Sobolev also developed the script for the film "Island". This work seriously influenced his fate, turning Dmitry into a successful and respected professional. The film was directed by the famous Pavel Lungin. The film was released in Russian distribution in the fall of 2006 and became a significant contribution to the national cultural heritage. The film was recognized at the Moscow Premiere and Golden Eagle awards.
