Pre-war childhood
Alexey Trofimovich Khoroshikh was born in the Irkutsk region in 1923. His parents were simple peasants. The family lived in the village of Mattagan. They lived, like everyone else in those days: poorly, worked hard. The boy graduated from only 5 classes of a rural school and began to help parents earn a living. There was no time for education. He went to work as a shepherd in the local sheep farm.
The work of a shepherd - a shepherd of sheep, at first glance it may seem quite simple. In fact, good performance requires a lot of work. The working day of the shepherd begins at 4-5 in the morning, when it is required to drive the flock to graze. Constantly you need to make sure that the sheep do not pile up, and with the onset of heat - look for a cooler place for them. In summer, sheep are bred to graze at night. A good offspring and a lot of wool can be obtained only from a well-fed sheep. Therefore, Alexey had to work a lot.
War years
Since the beginning of World War II, at the age of 18, Alexei Khoroshikh was called upon to defend his homeland. He took an active part in the battles of the Red Army and served the entire war with the rank of corporal in the mortar brigade, unit No. 43.
In the summer of 1945, he took part in active battles against the Japanese invaders. In the award list, the commander noted that military operations were conducted in difficult conditions: cars could not move, getting stuck in swamps. Corporal Alexei Khoroshikh repaired the road with his own hand. He dragged huge stones, shrubs, thereby giving the opportunity to move military equipment.
