Tom Leonard Blomkvist is a well-known British-Swedish racing driver, BMW pilot, son of the legendary racer Stig Blockwist, who became the youngest winner in the 2010 Formula Renault UK Championship.
Biography
Tom was born in British Cambridge on November 30, 1993. He began to love motor racing at the age of three, when the famous father gave his son a mini ATV. And when the boy was six years old, the family moved to New Zealand.
My father was rarely at home, speaking at various competitions. Tom and his brother Paul were raised by their mother, in every way encouraging and supporting their sons' love of sports. From the age of eight, Tom took part in all kinds of children's motorsport competitions, receiving prizes and winning titles throughout New Zealand.
In 2009, Stig offered to move to Sweden so that his sons could continue their racing career, and Tom soon took part in the Swedish Renault championship. And in 2010, the young race car driver returned to the UK to compete in the Formula Renault UK series. And in the first season, sixteen-year-old Tom Blomkvist won the championship, becoming the youngest winner, breaking the record of the famous racer Lewis Hamilton, who took first places at the age of 18 years.
Career
After winning the Formula Renault UK, Tom switched to German F3, ending the season as a rookie in sixth place with two poles, one victory and four podium finishes. In 2013, Tom performed at the FIA European F3, finishing the year in seventh place.
In 2014, Blomkvist won six races and beat the favorites of the race, the Frenchman Esteban Okon and Red Bull protege Max Verstappen. Thanks to these successes, Tom received a major contract with BMW Motorsport, got an individual racing car and team.
In the 2015 season, the athlete completed the championship, which was held in the German town of Oschersleben, in the honorable 14th place, becoming the youngest of the finalists of the BMW team. And in 2016 he finished the race in sixth place. Unfortunately, in the next 2017 in a tough fight, Tom could not reach the previous heights.
But 2018 brought the athlete many important and outstanding events. Tom received a prize for winning the largest 24-hour GT race in the world, and the BMW team was considered weak in these races, and Blomkvist's achievement was a surprise and a real celebration for fans of his team.
