Gediminas Taranda is not only a well-known ballet dancer throughout the country. He impressed the audience with his participation in the television shows King of the Ring and Ice Age. At first, the dancer’s creative fate was very successful. But he could not escape the blows and jabs of fate.
Gediminas Leonovich Taranda: facts from a biography
The future ballet dancer was born in Kaliningrad on February 26, 1961. His ancestors on the mother's side were from the Cossacks, his father was a colonel. After several years of marriage, Taranda's parents divorced. After that, the mother and children moved to Voronezh.
In his youth, Gediminas was keen on sports: canoeing, wrestling, judo and football. Mom worked at the local opera and ballet theater, so that the young man could be in performances. This largely determined the professional choice of Gediminas.
In 1974, Taranda entered the choreographic school of Voronezh, and after two years of hard work, he became a student at the Moscow Choreographic School. After graduation, distribution took place: so Gediminas ended up at the Bolshoi Theater.
For the first time on stage, Taranda performed in the play "Don Quixote". The artist’s debut was not the most successful: Taranda forgot to remove woolen socks and was late with the exit not to the stage. In addition, he also fell. However, the dizzying career of a talented ballet dancer began precisely from this moment.
Creative career of Gediminas Taranda
In the 80s, the audience did not go to the Great Hall so much to watch the ballet: everyone wanted to see firsthand the talented artist. Especially for Gediminas, Yuri Grigorovich staged the performances "Golden Age" and "Raymond".
In 1984, the young actor first went abroad with a touring group. He had a chance to speak in Mexico. After that, Gediminas got into trouble because of relations with the leadership: for four years the artist was forbidden to leave the country. In 1993, Taranda was completely dismissed from the Bolshoi Theater.
Gediminas did not despair: literally a year later he organized the Imperial Russian Ballet. Forty people were recruited to the troupe. The repertoire of the theater was quite rich: it included the 15 best productions. Taranda managed to preserve the glorious traditions of Russian ballet in this project and raise this art to a new height.
Already in 2004, Gediminas was accepted as an actor to the Mossovet Theater.
The famous dancer is also known to the public for his participation in the projects "Ice Age" and "King of the Ring". Gediminas’s partner on ice was the famous and titled Irina Slutskaya. The couple more than once pleased the audience with their professional skills.
