Sergei Borisovich Stankevich is a historian and politician, known as the author of three dozen books and articles. He supported perestroika, worked on the team of the first Russian president, and is currently a businessman. A liberal and a democrat who considers peace is the main property of a politician.

Historian
Sergei Stankevich was born in 1954 in the suburbs. He graduated from a pedagogical university in Moscow, but began to teach not at school, but at the Institute of Oil and Gas. It was then that the young teacher-historian had an interest in the past and present of American society. As an employee of the Academy of Sciences and the Institute of History, he became acquainted with the foundations of democracy in America. The defense of the Ph.D. thesis on the work of the US Congress took place in 1983.
Politician
At the height of perestroika, Stankevich, a proponent of reform, became a member of the CPSU. Moving from theory to practical work, Sergey Borisovich decided to pursue a political career. He unexpectedly won the election of the head of the Moscow Soviet, bypassing Gavriil Popov, but lost this seat to him, and he took the role of deputy. The young politician explained his act by the lack of managerial experience.
In the late 80s, Stankevich participated in the creation of a union of informal organizations. Over time, the Popular Front became the Democratic Russia movement. The politician very much believed that a combination of "democratic socialism" and a "multistructure economy" was possible in the country.
In the team of Yeltsin
For several years, Sergey Stankevich worked with the Yeltsin team. He supported Boris Nikolayevich during the coup and remained nearby as a political adviser. Stankevich has always been an opponent of radical decisions, he believed that everything can be achieved in dialogue. He left the Kremlin in 1993, his alternative approach to resolving disputes was not useful. In the same year, Sergei Borisovich was elected to the State Duma from the Party of Unity and Consent. During the years of the deputy, his name often appeared in various high-profile stories. One of them was connected with the dismantling of the monument to Dzerzhinsky in Lubyanka.
Emigration
Two years later, during the next presidential election, the politician fell into disgrace, he was accused of corruption. The reason was in supporting the run for Anatoly Sobchak. The secret services could not leave this fact unattended, because of the charges against Stankevich, in order to avoid arrest, he was forced to emigrate to Poland. There is a version that this tribal roots are associated with this country. He was able to return to Russia only in 1999, when all charges were dropped.
Businessman
In the mid-2000s, Sergei Stankevich started an agricultural business. The production of meat products, and then ketchup and canned vegetables "Baltimore" brought a good income. At the moment, his concern is engaged in the construction of greenhouse complexes throughout the country.
Two years ago, Sergey Stankevich tried to return to big politics and participated in the parliamentary elections from the Growth Party. But he was defeated, gaining less than a half percent of the vote.
