Biography
Igor Shesterkin was born on the penultimate day of 1995, on December 30 in Moscow. The boy did not seek to engage in hockey; moreover, he became one by chance. Once, his friend invited me to watch one of the games in the local hockey section. The game impressed the young Shesterkin so much that he decided to quit boring swimming and go to hockey. Igor received his first hockey experience at the Moscow school of Krylia Sovetov HC. He began to speak for them at the level of youth teams.
Career
At the Kontinental Hockey League draft in early 2012, the leadership of the Spartak Moscow club drew attention to a promising goalkeeper. Having received the 31st number in the second round, he was announced to the youth team of Red-White. In general, Shesterkin played 13 matches for juniors. For the main team, he got into the application only in February 2013, but never appeared on the ice.
A full debut took place on the 27th of the same month. In the framework of the tournament "Cup of Hope 2013", in the quarterfinal match against Minsk "Dynamo". The game of the main keeper did not work out, and after two missed goals in two minutes, he was replaced by Igor Shesterkin. For the remaining 48 minutes of the match, the talented goalkeeper was able to repel 18 of the 19 casts.
In June 2014, Igor moved to SKA in the northern capital, and in November of that year he made his debut on ice. In the same year, he managed to play several matches for SKA-Karelia in the VHL and for youth SKA-1946. Shesterkin became a full-fledged goalkeeper of the main team of the army club, firmly entrenched in it, only in 2016. He set a record - 272 minutes and 8 seconds did not miss a single goal. Currently continues to play for the St. Petersburg team.
National team
For the first time, a young but already famous hockey player was declared for the national team of Russia in 2016 at the World Cup, but he never appeared on ice. The gates of the national team at that tournament were defended by Sergey Bobrovsky. Nevertheless, Shesterkin won the bronze medal in the tournament.
The debut as part of the adult team took place in 2016, as part of the Karjala Cup. At the tournament, the team performed in experimental mode, many players first received a call to the national team. All three matches in the goal frame was Igor Shesterkin. As a result of the tournament, the team scored 100% of the points, took first place and received gold medals.
In 2018, Igor won gold at the Olympic games in Pyeongchang as part of the hockey team. Due to a long doping scandal, the roots of which go back to the Sochi Olympics in 2014, the Russian team was not allowed to play in 2018. However, our athletes were allowed to play under a neutral flag, formally the Russian team was called "Olympic Athletes from Russia".
