The biography of the musician
Egor was born on September 10, 1964 in Omsk. His real name is Igor. Letov, from childhood, was fond of music, and also very fond of drawing and composing poetry.
After graduating from high school, he went to study at a construction school in the Moscow region, where he moved to live with his brother Sergey. He was also a famous musician and perhaps played a key role in the life of the future rocker. But academic performance left much to be desired, and a year later the musician dropped out of school.
Letov returned to his native Omsk and founded the group "Sowing". In parallel with this, he worked at the factory, and also worked as a janitor and watchman. Moreover, Yegor was listed as an artist and painted various communist posters.
In 1984, Letov created the legendary Civil Defense group. He spends recordings of albums in an ordinary apartment on a tape recorder, so the sound of the songs is so dull and fuzzy. This becomes the main feature of the team. Even having the opportunity to record in the studio, Yegor continues to bend his line and create songs in a makeshift way.
Letov always tried to go against the system. He did not consider himself to be a musical movement, but simply enjoyed the music being created. Egor didn’t play the guitar very masterly, but, nevertheless, the number of fans of the group grew every day. This was largely due to the collective’s songs, which often included swear words, as well as discussions on the most sensitive topics of that difficult time.
This attracts the attention of special services and in 1994 Yegor was placed in a psychiatric hospital for treatment. They pump him with strong psychotropic drugs and try to change his mindset. But Letov is not amenable to such an impact, and after 4 months of imprisonment his brother Sergei will save him. So the musician is released, and he again returns to his work.
After that, Civil Defense releases several albums at once, including Mousetrap, Everything is going according to plan, and so on.
After recording two more albums, Letov creates another collective with which he releases several compositions. Egor continues to work for two teams.
In the early 2000s, Letov was fond of politics and enrolled in the National Party of Russia. He is very close friends in Limonov. In 2004, the musician decides to engage in politics and pursues a career again.
Letov has many new ideas for creativity, among which was the creation of the film. But they were not destined to come true. On February 19, 2008, Yegor died under rather strange circumstances. In conclusion, it was said that the musician was poisoned by ethanol. This is how the earthly path of the cult musician for youth of the 90s of the 20th century ended.
