1
The very concept of conservatism is literally translated as "conservation" and "unchanging state." The ideology of conservatism arose in response to the French Revolution. She advocates commitment to traditional values in all areas of public life. Conservatives do not accept radical reforms, and also advocate a strong state. Only it, according to conservatives, is capable of ensuring public and state order. And radical changes can be detrimental to the state.
2
In the foreign policy, conservatives defend an independent tough policy and allow the use of military force to protect their interests. They oppose the globalization of markets and prefer to protect the domestic market from imports. Modern conservatism has become more flexible and better adapted to the environment. Their examples are the regimes of R. Reagan in the USA, M. Thatcher in the UK.
3
Liberalism arose as the antithesis of conservatism. If traditionalism has become a key value for the latter, then for liberalism - freedom. Initially, liberalism advocated a change in the current order in times of absolute monarchy. Thanks to liberals, modern society is obliged to consolidate basic freedoms, the rule of law, the emergence of elections and the separation of powers. Classical liberals advocate limited government intervention in the economy, whose functions should be reduced only to creating an enabling environment for the distribution of social benefits. Individual and economic freedom are the highest values for them.
4
Conservatives and liberals have a different point of view on the political, economic, social and cultural structure. So, in politics, conservatives do not accept fundamental political transformations and reforms. Liberals, on the contrary, are in favor of expanding the rights and freedoms of citizens, as well as social guarantees. Conservatives oppose economic cooperation with other countries, while liberals favor a free open market without borders. According to conservatives, cultural life also does not require changes, they are for the traditional family structure, social behavior and hierarchy. Liberals, on the other hand, welcome freedom of expression and free relations.
5
The intermediate position between liberalism and conservatism is liberal conservatism. It is distinguished by a more liberal attitude to the economy, in particular, it is based on the principles of non-interference in the economy. Also, this trend advocates less interference by the state on the part of the state, and also upholds the principles of environmental protection. It is a moderately right ideology.
