Biography
The future athlete was born in December 1991 in the small Dutch city of Vatingen. Kiki is the eldest of three sisters in the family of Dore and Rob Bertens and the only one who chose a sports career. From an early age, the girl was very active and loved sports activities. Vatingen is a rural province, and the choice of sports sections there is small. Kiki liked to play tennis, and therefore at the age of six she first appeared on the court under the strict guidance of an experienced mentor.
In adolescence, Kiki developed her own, rather aggressive style of play, which often confused opponents, which allowed the tennis player to earn the coveted points.
Professional career
On a professional level, the girl first appeared on the court when she was only seventeen. The debut took place in 2009 at the tournaments of the ITF series, the second most important competition in professional women's tennis. Over the course of the year, she won two singles tournaments, and also recorded five doubles awards at once. The following year added two victories in singles tournaments and one doubles in the piggy bank of a beginner tennis player.
In early 2011, Bertens was first invited to the Netherlands national team, in which she took part in the qualifying matches for the Federation Cup. In the summer of the same year, Kiki first got a chance to play at the WTA tournament, which was held in the Dutch Hertogenbosch. Unfortunately, the debut at the highest level was extremely unsuccessful, the girl flew out of the tournament in the first match, losing to the more experienced athlete from Italy.

In 2012, Bertens achieved a truly high result and made herself known to the whole world. At the annual WTA tournament in Marroco, she won her first title at that level. During the tournament, she beat such famous athletes as Simone Halep and Garbinier Mugurus. In the final, she met with Laura Pous-Tio and dealt with her without any problems in two sets.
In total, Kiki won nine titles of WTA tournaments in singles during her career and in 2018 she took ninth place in the world ranking, this is the highest position in Bertens' career. To date, the tennis player continues to do what she loves. In 2019, she took part in the US open tournament, where she took off in the third round. She also participated in the Porshe Tennis Grand Prix. At this competition, Kiki reached the stage of the semi-finals, where in a bitter struggle she lost to the more experienced athlete Petra Kvitova.
