Painting is a very subtle art. Artists in their paintings are trying to portray the world that they see with their own eyes. Studying the works of various artists, one can notice that landscapes, portraits, and even animals can be depicted in the paintings.

Animal painting
Recently, animal paintings have become very popular. Animalism is a genre of fine art that is closely related to the image of animals. Some famous artists preferred this particular genre and often betrayed human features in their paintings. Animalism is one of the oldest topics in art, the roots of which date back to prehistoric times. For example, animal images are very often found on the walls of the caves of the first settlers, and in the murals of the tombs of the pharaohs (since animals in ancient Egypt were considered gods and accompanied the rulers after death), and in the murals of temples of the Middle Ages.
In modern art, animalistics occupies its own niche and is represented by a large number of works by domestic and foreign artists.
Animals in the paintings of V. Serov
One of the wonderful Russian animal artists is Valentin Serov. People know many of his works as illustrations for Krylov's fables. He painted animals with the main characters of his paintings, and sometimes portrayed them together with people. Very often Serov captured horses in his paintings (“At the Carriage”, “Gargling”, “Bathing the Horse”, “Departure of Emperor Peter I and Elizabeth for the Hunt” and others). It should also be noted the picture "Ox", where white and black oxen are painted near the cart and the dilapidated house. Another example of the image of domestic animals is the painting "October Domotkanovo", where a shepherd boy grazes sheep and horses.
Serov performed some drawings of animals with an ordinary pencil, and this gave them an extraordinary charm.
