One of the most sensational and, of course, anticipated films was "Pieta" by Korean film director Kim Ki-duk. This is a picture of a spiritual metamorphosis of a person who, under the influence of maternal love, finds the strength to change his life and abandon all the abominations that previously filled his heart. This tough film was ambiguously criticized by critics, but it deservedly brought to its creator Golden Lion.
The film by Paul Thomas Anderson "The Master" with Philip Seymour Hoffman about the founder of a new religion also caused a lot of controversy, attracting the attention of the public. In a story told by a talented director, you can easily find out the biography of Scientology founder Ron Hubbart. Anderson was awarded the Silver Lion. Scientologists themselves are extremely unhappy with the way Hubbart is shown in the picture and are already writing protest statements to the creators of the film. All this only fuels the interest of the public, which the film has not yet seen.
Not without a festival in Venice, and without eroticism. Brian De Palma made a remake of the French film Love Crime, calling his work "Passion" (Passion). The film was a worthy end to the festival program. Among the romantic paintings can be noted "To admiration" or "To a miracle" (To the Wonder) with Ben Affleck in the title role. Critics did not take this film seriously, booing some directorial moves by Terrence Malik. However, the general public was more supportive of the film.
The drama “Sleeping Beauty” by Marco Bellocchio, or Bella Addormentata, about a woman who has been in a coma for twenty years, raised very serious questions about the human right not only to life but also to death. In modern society, euthanasia is one of the most discussed topics, so the film did not go unnoticed.
The documentary film "Bad 25" about Michael Jackson was presented out of competition. It has become a real treasure for fans of the singer, because there is very little information about the idol lately. Director Spike Lee dedicated his painting to the king of pop music for a reason - this year marks 25 years since the release of Bad. In the film, colleagues and friends of Michael Jackson talk about how the creation of the album that blew up the world of popular music.
