NATO, otherwise called the North Atlantic Alliance, is an organization uniting countries based on a common military and political interest. To join it, the government of any state must follow a certain legal procedure.
Instruction manual
1
Contact the NATO Council to include your country in this organization. The preliminary stage will be military cooperation, for example, conducting joint exercises.
2
When approving your application, sign the NATO Membership Action Plan (MAP). It is compiled individually for each country, but it includes a number of standard prerequisites. These include the settlement of various territorial disputes with neighboring countries. Also, the system of command and control of the armed forces should become more open and democratic. To do this, the post of Minister of Defense should be held by a civilian specialist. And for successful joint cooperation with the forces of the alliance, the army of a country joining NATO must comply with modern standards for training personnel, as well as have modern weapons.
3
If there are military units of another state on the territory of the country, decide on their withdrawal. This is also required by NATO, since when joining this organization, the state should no longer militarily help and rely on countries outside the North Atlantic bloc.
4
After all the conditions of the agreement are met, send a letter about this to the NATO Council. After that, the organization must ratify the agreement on obtaining your country membership in the Alliance. If the outcome of the negotiations is successful, pass the necessary documents to the parliament of your state. After he approves the entry into force of the document, it must be signed by the head of the country - the president or, in some cases, the monarch. With the implementation of these actions, the country officially becomes a member of NATO, receiving various foreign policy results from this. However, one must be prepared for the fact that membership in such an organization also imposes restrictions on the country, in particular, in the search for partner states in the political arena.
