The famous American science fiction action movie Transformers was shot by Michael Bay in 2007 based on the Hasbro series of toys created in 1984. Hasbro later turned into a real media empire to create comics and animated series.
The abundance of special effects and stunning scenery made the film a real masterpiece of modern cinema. To create a fantastic action movie hundreds of cameras and a huge number of extras, dozens of professional stuntmen and kilograms of pyrotechnics were used.
The director of the film, Michael Bay, wanted to intentionally save most of the Transformers budget during filming, and then use it to create incredible special effects, for which contracts were signed with General Motors automobile corporation, as well as the American army, as a result of which the director was part of military vehicles and special equipment.
Many critics believe that the abundance of special effects and battle scenes does not allow the heroes of the film to really reveal themselves and show themselves.
The situation on the set
Despite the huge number of special effects and the use of computer graphics, the conditions on the set were as close as possible to the real ones. Part of the filming took place in American Chicago, where at the time of filming a significant part of the city promenade and Michigan Avenue, famous for high skyscrapers and the most expensive shops, were blocked.
The set was a huge pile of cars, both completely new and completely destroyed, various special equipment, fragments of buildings, stones and pieces of asphalt.
In total, 532 cars were destroyed during the filming of Transformers.
Smoke machines, high cranes for cameras, trucks with shooting props and mini-cars for conveniently moving members of the crew around the site were continuously plying along the set, and a helicopter belonging to Paramount Pictures was flying high in the sky. The crew itself while working on the film lived in special motor homes near an impromptu movie set. To prevent possible fires, the fire engine of the Chicago Fire Department was constantly present on the set.
The glass of the buildings was specially knocked out, real asphalt was replaced with specially made of polystyrene foam, unique copies of buildings were also developed that were destroyed during the battles of transformers.
The ruined city was created with the help of maximum detail, random witnesses filming unwittingly began to believe in everything that was happening around. Interestingly, in the extras of the film, real sailors from the US Navy took part.
The screen time for special effects in the second part of the sequel was 51 minutes or one third of the film.
