It would seem that all sensible people understand that no one should be given a card number and even less a password to it. So how does it turn out, why does money disappear from the card fraudulently? We describe the scheme that criminals use to cash in on people posting ads for sale or buying on sites with private ads.

So, the announcement of the sale is posted, you are waiting for a call from potential buyers. Scammers at this time carefully study the details of your ad text, choose the appropriate legend and manner of conversation. They start the conversation like this: "You have not sold the playpen yet? Is it in good condition?" At the same time, questions are asked on the merits, but here you should be alerted by the fact that the answers are not always heard.
After this, an account is made of a completely true legend - “My wife chose your playpen, I’m in another city now, I will transfer money to you, and my wife will come and take the playpen. Tell me where to transfer the money?” Fraudsters get your card number and bank name from you. They can “work” on the card of any bank, but for some reason they choose Sberbank more.
This is followed by an explanation of why they need you to say the password:"
To pay, I need to attach your card to our corporate accounts, from them I will pay for the arena. Now you will receive a password for the phone, dictate it to me. "The scammers’s speech is fast, persistent, they repeat phrases one after another to prevent you from coming to your senses and getting off the hook.
Another thing to be sure of is the following:
- The names of famous companies or amounts will be mentioned many times to impress you.
- The offender will persistently ask not to hang up, otherwise the transfer may be interrupted. In parallel with your conversation, a message will be sent to you on your mobile phone about the entrance to your personal account. The interlocutor will insist on telling him the password received in the SMS message.
What actions should be taken if you realized that you are talking with scammers and also gave them a password?
1. Interrupt the conversation immediately, hang up.
2. Block the card and the entrance to your personal account. To do this, immediately call the contact center of your bank. They work around the clock and for most of them calls are free. With the help of the operator, lock the card and enter your personal account.
3. Leave a request to reissue the card by the bank (sometimes this can be done by phone).
4. Check your computer and phone for viruses.
5. Read the fraud protection rules on the bank's website. If you respond with lightning speed, then the criminals will not have time to transfer money, even if they received a password from you. As for deposits, first they transfer funds from deposits to the current card account and only then withdraw. Therefore, even if you managed to "leave" the money from the card account, then, quite possibly, there is no deposit yet.
Recommendation: be careful, scammers are becoming more sophisticated every year in their methods of dishonest money-taking, so you can not always be sure that only pensioners are deceived. Criminals are good “psychologists, ” they can easily pick up the necessary “keys” for both a young mother and a mature man, not to mention the elderly and children.
