early years
Svetlana was born on January 19, 1979. Her parents moved to Belgorod from Mordovia. My father worked at a construction site, my mother was a nurse.
She did gymnastics at the age of 4 after a neighbor advised her mother to enroll the girl in a sports school. Her trainer was Pilkin Boris. The girl was persistent, industrious. In 1992, she was included in the national team.
Gymnastics
In 1995, Svetlana injured her back, she needed long-term treatment. However, she continued to train. Despite the pain, the girl was able to win the World Cup.
After the restoration, there were other victories. In 1996, Khorkina got gold in Atlanta at the Olympics. The performance was so brilliant that then they began to call Svetlana "the queen of the bars."
After the victory, the girl decided to relax. She went to Belgorod, began to study at the university. However, Svetlana got used to another life, she soon returned to the capital.
In 2000, Khorkina went to Sydney for the Olympic Games. The gymnast suffered knee injuries due to the incorrect installation of the apparatus. However, Svetlana again received gold.
In 2001, the gymnast won the World Cup. From 1995 to 2001 Khorkina was a winner at all World Championships and at the Olympics, where she performed on bars.
In 2002, Khorkina was invited to participate in the play "Venus", she was given the main role. In 2003, the gymnast won the World Cup, becoming the champion for the third time. Khorkina’s last performance was in Athens at the Olympics in 2004. The gymnast made it to the finals, but did not receive gold.

Since 2010, Khorkina has been a member of the Patriarchal Council for Culture. Svetlana Vasilievna has the rank of lieutenant colonel of the reserve, she is the deputy head of CSKA.
