Biography
Ella Pamfilova was born in 1953 in the Uzbek settlement of Almalyk in the Tashkent region. She was brought up in a working-class family. Parents had to work hard, which is why Grandpa spent a lot of time with Ella. At school, the future female politician was an excellent student and activist. After graduating with a medal, Ella went to the capital to enter the capital state university. The girl was denied admission, but was gladly accepted to the Energy Institute, where she studied as a technical engineer.
Ella Alexandrovna started her career at the Mosenergo mechanical-repair factory. She managed to achieve the position of a process engineer and eventually headed the trade union committee. With this status, a woman also joined the Supreme Council of Trade Unions in the late 80s. Immediately after the collapse of the USSR, Boris Yeltsin personally invited her to the cabinet of ministers, where Pamfilova took the post of Minister for Social Protection of the Population of Russia. In addition, she became the head of the movement For Healthy Russia.
Ella Pamfilova kept her post until 2000, managing to become the first woman politician in the country to apply for the post of President of the Russian Federation and become one of the candidates in the elections. Vladimir Putin won, and Ella Alexandrovna continued to deal with human rights issues. In 2002, she also headed the Civil Society to Children of Russia association. Since March 2016, Ella Pamfilova joined the Central Election Commission, as the chairman of which she began preparing new presidential elections. The socio-political event was successfully held in March 2018.
