Mount Mithridates is one of the attractions of the city of Kerch, the height of the mountain reaches 92 meters, it can be seen from all points of the city. From the top of the mountain you can admire the wonderful view of the Kerch bay and the surrounding area of the city. To get to the highest point of the mountain you need to go along the Mithridates staircase, along its 436 steps. A mountain named after the Pontic king Mithridates VI Eupator was named, and its capital, Panticapaeum, was located on its slopes. This ancient king from his youth was afraid of poisoning, so he took a little bit of poison, so that his body developed immunity. Mithridates was a powerful ruler and even fought with Rome. As a result of the third war, he was defeated by the troops of the commander Gnei Pompey. After the defeat, Mithridates returned to his capital, Panticapaeum, to gather strength and organize a new army. But he was betrayed by his own son, the army rebelled and the threat of captivity arose. Trying to avoid the disgrace of captivity, the king accepted the poison, having previously killed his daughters, but the poison did not work. Then Mithridates asked his servant to kill himself with a sword. So Mithridates died, and the mountain gained its name.
