I wonder where is that thin line that separates a decent act from dishonorable? What personal qualities must be possessed in order to be considered in modern society as a person endowed with such an endangered quality as decency?

Decency, like everything that exists in our world, is a rather subjective concept. And although many inquisitive minds have already managed to independently characterize the term decency in dictionaries, psychological treatises, personal blogs, and forums, each person is free to color this word in his own shade, depending on his own feelings, level of personality development, mood and many other circumstances. In a philistine sense, decency is honesty, which closely borders on the observance of moral standards accepted in society. In other words, a decent person must observe a strict moral code that does not allow to commit an illegal, vicious, low deed. But this is only a theory. And what happens in practice? We all grow up in society, so decency is an acquired mental property of a person. A huge influence on the laying of ethical standards in the children's mind is exerted by parents, educators, and teachers. An important role is given to the media, television, books, magazines. Do not forget about the friends and acquaintances of the child, communication with which transforms his personality year after year. Perhaps a certain percentage of the human nature is karmic and depends on the date of birth, but the most important thing is that only the person himself can choose the path to cultivating decency, or he can decide to get rid of it as unnecessary ballast. Your integrity and decency depends on the smallest daily choice. It is impossible to become a decent person without painstaking work on yourself. It is important to control not only your actions, but also thoughts. In order not to be considered, but really to be decent, you need to try to bring love, creation, harmony to the world, anxiously saving it from negativity. But can absolutely sinless, ideal people live on our planet? Yes, a person can strive for the performance of decent actions, but he hardly approaches the standard decency. That decency, which is forever frozen in memoirs, book images. Life is more complicated than books. Probably, the real decency still lies in living with one’s mind, one’s own heart, and not imposed stereotypes, since you cannot be honest with others if you are not at odds with yourself.
