Holy Assumption Lent lasts two weeks. The beginning of bodily and spiritual abstinence, dedicated to the Virgin, among Christians begins on August 14th. Fasting ends on the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin on August 28th.
The assumption post is considered strict. Therefore, food allowed for consumption in this post is not much different from Lenten food.
Church statutes prescribe strict abstinence on Wednesdays and Fridays. Dry-eating is prescribed to the Christian. This means that boiled food is prohibited, and vegetable oil should also not be consumed. These days you can eat vegetables, fruits. Sometimes some priests allow the baking of baked foods. In this form, for example, potatoes can be consumed. There is a practice to understand dry food as food that tastes cold. If a person has permission to consume such dishes, then you can eat any food in cold form, not containing elements of animal origin, without vegetable oil.
On Saturdays and Sundays of the Assumption Lent, food relaxation is permitted. A Christian can eat vegetable oil. Therefore, it is quite possible to cook various vegetable salads seasoned with lean mayonnaise. It is also permissible to use any products that do not contain elements of animal origin.
On the remaining days of the week, vegetable oil is prohibited, but boiled food is tasted. Fish in the Assumption post is allowed only on the feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ on August 19th.
It should be noted that in the Assumption post it is allowed to eat some seafood, as in other posts. So, shrimp, squid, octopus do not belong to non-fast food. Therefore, salads of squid and vegetables are common. Assumption fasting allowed the use of soy foods, as they are of plant origin.
With the blessing of the confessor, there may be relief in fasting. For example, on Wednesdays and Fridays, permission for boiled foods with vegetable oil is possible.
It must also be understood that bodily abstinence is not the whole point of fasting. A Christian must abstain from his passions at this time, try to quarrel less with his neighbors, confess and partake more often, and read the Holy Scripture more.
