The planned reconstruction of the Coliseum was reported by Gianni Alemano, mayor of Rome. According to him, this construction should have been restored several years ago, but there was no way to allocate the necessary amount for this. According to estimates, about 25 million euros will have to be spent on the reconstruction, and the owner of the famous shoe company Tod's agreed to provide this money in exchange for the right to advertise in the Coliseum for 15 years.
First of all, it is planned to ban traffic near the Coliseum. In the afternoon, several dozen buses and several hundred cars pass every hour there, and this was one of the reasons for the gradual destruction of the famous architectural monument. That reconstruction was not in vain, the negative impact must be reduced to a minimum. Another problem was the cold: it was because of them in the winter of 2011-2012. many cracks in the Coliseum increased noticeably and even whole pieces of the amphitheater fell off.
The restoration of the Coliseum will take about 3 years. Work must be carried out in six areas, each of which will be restored on average from 2 to 2.5 years. The system of locking arches will be completely replaced, covered galleries will be repaired, the northern and southern façades will be restored. In addition, it is planned not only to restore the southwestern part of the Coliseum, but also to establish there a luxurious service center with an area of about 1600 square meters. m. In this center there will be book and souvenir shops, toilets, cash desks, an information bureau, etc. The emergence of a service center will make visiting the Coliseum more convenient and enjoyable for tourists.
Restoration will be carried out simultaneously in several areas, however, those parts of the Coliseum where repairs will not be carried out are likely to remain open to visitors. Of course, the safety of tourists will be strictly monitored, not allowing them to places where collapses are possible.
