Literary activity
Having received a certificate of maturity, Andrei worked for two seasons on a geological expedition. Mountain peaks and gorges pulled the novice writer to him. Bitov himself explained this attraction by the call of his ancestors. Over time, he learned that among his ancestors were representatives of the Circassians. After some deliberation, Andrey decided to get a specialized education at the geological exploration department of the Leningrad Mining Institute. Already on his student bench, he felt an irresistible craving for literary creativity. There was a literary association at the institute, in which many future poets and writers were engaged.
Bitov began to write systematically in 1956. The first stories were published four years later in the almanac "Young Leningrad". In 1963, the author’s first book, entitled The Big Ball, was published. From that moment, Bitov began to consider himself a professional writer. Books from his pen came out every year. "Pharmaceutical island", "Country area", "Seven trips" and others. In the late 60s, the writer studied at the scriptwriters' courses. In the early 90s, Bitov left for Germany, where for two years he worked on the large-scale series "Empire in Four Dimensions".
