Tim Barton is one of the most popular Hollywood directors, who managed to create his own fantastic, sometimes eerie world on the screen and make it interesting for millions of viewers. Almost every year, Barton’s new works appear on the screens, in which he manages to combine the author’s vision with commercial success.
The future famous director studied at the Department of Animation at the California Institute of the Arts, and then worked as an artist at Walt Disney Studios. All this markedly influenced the work of Barton: his works include extremely original animated films.
The beginning of the director's career
From an early age, Barton tries himself as a director, filming amateur game and animated shorts: “Island of Dr. Agora”, “Fatal Doctor”, “In the footsteps of a celery monster”, “Vincent”. In 1982, he filmed on television the fairy tale of the Grimm brothers "Hansel and Gretel" (for some reason, turning his brother and sister into two brothers). The last amateur film directed by the director was an almost unknown to the general public film "Lauau - Hawaiian party."
In 1984, Barton directed his first play, Frankevini, to be shown in movie theaters along with the restored animated film Pinocchio. Despite the fact that, according to Barton himself, at the test viewing, children screamed from fear only during the Pinocchio, the studio did not dare to release the Frankevini, considering it too gloomy and complicated for the children's audience. However, the film attracted the attention of actor Paul Rubens, who suggested that the director make a film according to his script, where Rubens himself had to play the main role. As a result, in 1985, Tim Burton’s first feature film, the family comedy The Great Pi-Vee Great Comedy, appeared.
