Family, early years
Galina Borisovna was born on December 19, 1933. Her hometown is Moscow. Galina's father is a director, cameraman, his mother was a screenwriter.
The girl was very fond of reading, her father wanted her to study at the Literary Institute. However, Galina followed in the footsteps of her parents, enrolling in the School-Studio at the Moscow Art Theater. She graduated in 1955.
Creative biography
Galina Borisovna, together with other graduates of the Studio School (Oleg Efremov, Oleg Tabakov, Evgeny Evstigneev), became the organizers of the Young Actors Studio, which later turned into the Sovremennik Theater. Until 1962, Volchek played in plays, then she became a director.
In 1972, Volchek took up the post of chief director, since 1989 she was the art director. The last exit Galina Borisovna on stage as an actress took place in 1984, she played in the play "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf."
Volchek coped with the duties of the director. The plays “Two on a Swing”, “Ordinary Story”, “Three Comrades” were very successful. For this work, Galina Borisovna received the State Prize.
She became the first director to stage plays on Russian classics in American theaters. This tour was awarded the prestigious US award - the "Drama Desk" award. In total, Galina Borisovna staged more than 30 performances. Volchek was involved in theater pedagogy, but mainly she taught classes abroad.
Galina Borisovna also worked in cinema, making her debut in the film "Don Quixote" (1957). She played in the movie "King Lear", "Bridge is under construction", "Sinful angel". The actress also had roles in the fairy tales "The Little Mermaid", "About Little Red Riding Hood", in the films "Tevye the Milkman", "Unicum", "Autumn Marathon". She managed to make all the characters bright.
Since 1996, Volchek began to appear in documentaries. In the two thousandth she starred in films dedicated to colleagues.
Galina Borisovna also tried herself as a film director. First she filmed theatrical productions, and then she shot several psychological dramas. In 2015, Volchek appeared in the film "Mysterious Passion".
For several years Galina Borisovna worked as a member of the Committee on Culture. In 2017, she was awarded the title of Hero of Labor.
