From the biography of Victor Hara
The future poet, singer and political activist was born in the small Chilean town of Chillan Viejo on September 28, 1932. Victor's parents were ordinary peasants and worked in the fields of large landowners. They worked from dawn to dusk, but this did not bring wealth to the family. There was barely enough money for food and the most necessary for life. Hara's father was a drinker. And it influenced the atmosphere in the family.
Passion for music manifested itself in Victor at an early age. He was taught by a rural teacher to play the guitar and play the first chords. He introduced the future singer with layers of folk culture.
Hara went to school against the will of her father and at the insistence of her mother: she did not want to see her son as a farm laborer. At school, Victor proved to be a capable student. But most of all he liked to participate in the skits that the guys played after classes.
However, soon the mother and children moved to Santiago - it was necessary to treat Victor's older sister. Mother worked as a cook in a restaurant, and the children helped her to earn money whenever possible. Over time, the mother managed to open her own tavern, where workers could eat.
After school
After graduating from school, Hara entered the school, choosing the profession of accountant. But accounting soon bored him. He was increasingly drawn to music. When his mother died of a stroke, Victor abandoned his studies and got a job as an apprentice in a furniture workshop.
In 1950, Hara decided on another crucial step - he entered the seminary, believing that the priesthood would make him a useful member of society. Two years later, Victor changed his mind and went astray of the religious faith: he did not want to forever abandon his relationship with women.
When Viktor was drafted into the army, he served in the infantry school. Paying the debt to the state, Hara worked in the ambulance service as a simple orderly. Then he was taken to the university choir. So began his career in music.
