Description of some types of forks: dining, salad, dessert, fish. How to use forks for eating meat, fish dishes, salads and desserts. Rules of etiquette.
The fork appeared in the tableware of Europeans in the 15th century. Prior to this, both kings and slaves ate food with the help of spoons, knives and their own hands. The first forks were flat, double-toothed and rather uncomfortable. Gradually acquiring a modern form, the cutlery with cloves began to "grow" with many modifications: forks for desserts, fish, salads and other dishes appeared.
Dining fork
A dinner fork is a regular four-pronged fork for eating main dishes. Served paired with a table knife. The dinner fork is taken in the left hand, the knife - in the right. In order to separate the meat from the main piece, the fork is turned upside down and stuck into the meat at a slight angle. Cut a piece with a knife and send it with a fork into the mouth. To take a side dish from a plate, turn the fork upside down and use it like a spoon, helping yourself with a knife.
Fish fork
Fork for fish less than lunch. It is equipped with four or three flat teeth. Sometimes two pairs of cloves are separated by a shallow recess in the middle. In good restaurants, a fish knife is served to fish; in its absence, two forks are used to eat fish. If you are served a whole piece of fish, press it with one fork to the plate, and with a second fork, separate the fish meat from the bones. Having eaten this part, turn the piece over to the other side and repeat the process. Ideally, after you eat the dish, a neat fish skeleton should remain on the plate.
Salad fork
The salad fork has four prongs and a wide base. This shape was given to the fork specifically in order to use different types of salads with its help. A salad knife is served to the salad fork. They use a salad fork as well as a dinner fork: turn it upside down and stick it into large pieces or leaves, cutting them off with a knife. When the salad is chopped, the fork is used as a spoon.
