Biography
Velta was born in 1948, in sunny Jurmala, in the family of a major party leader. The post-war child was a real joy for his parents and the daughter received the ancient Latvian name, meaning "Gift" - and really became a joy. The serious, knowledge-hungry, diligent and obedient Velta received not only a standard Soviet education, but also a home education. In the evenings, the family decided to read classical literature aloud, discuss global topics, and discuss history and art.
At school, Velta found herself a best friend - he was Misha Zadornov, a classmate. At first there was no romance between the children, but parents often joked that they would soon become related. The children got so attached to each other that after graduating from school in 1966, they entered the University of Latvia together, and after it, they again went to Moscow to continue their education. The girl entered the Moscow State University at the Faculty of Philology and graduated from graduate school there. By that time, Velta Kalnberzina had already become the lawful wife of her childhood friend, the wedding took place in 1971.
Career
Velta Yanovna is a very educated woman. She is fluent in a dozen foreign languages, is a professor and leading specialist at Moscow State University and still works at the Department of Linguistics. In 1976, she defended her Ph.D. and her doctorate in 1992.
Under her leadership, 17 candidates and 1 doctoral work were defended. Velta is a member of the European Community of Translators and often speaks at scientific conferences dedicated to Russian and English. In the 80s she taught Russian in Britain, translates classical poetry. In a word, Velta Kalnberzina is a man, scientist and researcher, passionate about her work, and in her circles she is much more famous and popular than her famous husband for a wide audience.
