The procedure for recruiting citizens for military service in the Russian Federation is regulated by a special regulatory act - Federal Law No. 53-FZ of March 28, 1998 "On Military Duty and Military Service". So, article 5.1 of this law, which determines the procedure for passing a medical examination in the process of sending to military service, establishes that the result of passing this procedure should be the assignment of a certain fitness category to a citizen.
The eligibility category is a parameter that determines whether a particular citizen has certain restrictions in the process of military service. In total, the law identifies five main categories of validity, for the designation of which the first five letters of the Russian alphabet are used - A, B, C, D and D. Moreover, categories B, D and D are a designation of situations when a young person constantly or temporarily cannot be called up for military service in peacetime. Thus, only owners of categories A and B are subject to the call.
