In 1836, a guide Filat with a bear and his wife, a servant of the monkeys, received permission from the governor of Nizhny Novgorod to work on the market square. However, the founder of the dynasty is the Russian trainer of predatory animals and the founder of the zoo circus system in the USSR, Ivan Lazarevich Filatov, who was born in 1873 in Saratov. Of his 13 children, only two continued to work in the circus - daughter Maria and son Valentin, who invented the Bear Circus attraction.
Valentin Ivanovich was born on August 12, 1920 in Yekaterinburg, he worked in the circus from the age of 6: he was an acrobat, a balancer, a trainer in the group of A.N. Kornilova. In 1935-1941 he was an animal caretaker, then a trainer and assistant at Kornilov.
With his own number, "Trained Bears" first appeared in 1941 in Kuibyshev. In 1941-1944 he toured with his father through the cities of Central Asia, showing a large mixed group (lions, tigers, cheetahs, as well as birds of different species). At the same time preparing a room with four bears.
In 1949 he created the famous attraction "Bear Circus" (premiered on November 6, 1949 at the Moscow Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard), which brought Filatov great fame. Filatov’s troupe toured abroad and starred in films (“Arena of the Brave”, “Michelle and Mishutka”, “Not All Bears Sleep in the Winter”). He died on August 7, 1979.
In 1975, Valentin Filatov released a new program, The Circus of Animals, where his daughters Lyudmila and Tatyana and their spouses began working with him. Now the sixth generation of the Filatov dynasty is playing at the circus ring.
