There are three versions of the cause of the events that occurred in Krymsk on the night of July 6-7, 2012. According to the first of them, heavy rain fell on the city, which caused the tragedy. According to the second version, a stream of water descended from the mountains caused by the same downpour. And the third option - the city authorities let the water out of the reservoir.

According to eyewitnesses, a powerful stream flooded the streets of the town in almost a few minutes. Moreover, in some places the waves reached eight meters. Of course, this did not happen in the whole village, but only in the lowlands. The average level of water that flooded the city was 2.5 meters. It is hardly believed that ordinary rainfall could entail similar consequences. But city officials continue to claim that the floodgates did not open.
People were locked in their homes, because of the powerful stream there was no way to get out of the house. The doors were blocked by the weight of the water, and the bars on the windows did not allow them to leave the building. When the rubble was dismantled, whole families were dug out of the silt. But people died not only from drowning. Several people died from a lightning strike, someone died from hypothermia. The authorities did not immediately turn off the electricity in the houses, so some more died from electric shocks.
Official information about the tragedy in the early days was very scarce. The media spoke only about heavy rains and several dozen dead. The Internet was full of truth only a few days later. Many photographs and videos can make it possible to judge the true dimensions of the tragedy.
According to the authorities, only 171 people died (158 in Krymsk itself). But the scale of destruction does not allow us to dwell on this figure. Almost every second house suffered, which means about 25, 000 people. At the time of the tragedy, almost everyone was fast asleep, which means they could not quickly respond to what was happening. Most buildings have lost roofs, windows and doors. It was unlikely that sleepy citizens could survive in such a hell. And the version that less than 200 people died looks at least ridiculous.
Due to the information allowed on the air, we can conclude about a real figure. According to the authorities, humanitarian aid went to 7 billion rubles. More than half of the amount was paid to the families of the victims. The maximum assistance to one person was two million rubles. If you make some simple calculations, we can assume that in fact there were about 2, 000 dead. But in Krymsk there were about 30% of residents without a residence permit: vacationers, relatives of residents, business travelers and people without a fixed residence. Those. as a result, far more than 2, 000 people died.
After some time, the authorities banned talking about the amounts of payments in order to prevent real numbers from broadcasting. But it was too late. The most common information - 2500 people died. The ordinary people are unlikely to ever know the real number of deceased. Some eyewitnesses say that in fact there were about 7, 000 corpses. But, most likely, this information is also incorrect. The authorities continue to argue that the number of drowned people is only 171 people, and then taking into account the deaths in other cities.
