Starting conditions
In the Soviet Union, military service was considered an honorable duty of every man. Boys were prepared for military service from an early age. Sergei Fedorovich Yarovoy was born on April 22, 1957 in the family of a military man. Parents at that time lived in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. Father served, guarding the sea borders of the state. Mother worked as a therapist in a local clinic.
Sergey studied well at school. His favorite subjects were history and geography. Seriously engaged in physical fitness. He participated in athletics and skiing competitions for the championship of the city and region. Having received a certificate of maturity, Yarovoy did not go to college, because he was drafted into the army in the fall. Demobilized after military service in 1977, he entered the Novosibirsk Military Higher Political School. With a diploma of specialized education, the young lieutenant arrived at the place of service in the airborne troops.
"Blue berets"
Until 1985, the service proceeded normally. Yarovaya performed his immediate responsibilities for the training of personnel in the post of political unit. Then he was transferred to the famous 350th Airborne Regiment, which conducted military operations in Afghanistan. Sergei was elected secretary of the Komsomol committee of the unit. By the nature of his activity, he not only participated in the hostilities, but also constantly communicated with the fighters in a normal situation. By that time, several people were already regularly gathering in a club or kapterka in their free time and singing songs with a guitar.
Captain Yarovoy himself loved to perform songs by Soviet composers. He immediately joined the singing team and became a leading member. A few months later he managed to “knock out” high-quality equipment from the suppliers. The guys expanded their repertoire. The command positively evaluated the amateur creativity of the fighters and provided all kinds of help. The team spoke to the personnel of units that were based on Afghan territory. Given the growing popularity of the group, someone suggested calling it "Blue Berets."
