Martial arts are extremely popular in Russia. Sergey Ryabov came to the judo section when he was barely seven years old. From that moment several years flew by and he became the world champion.

Starting conditions
The Olympic Games are considered the most prestigious competitions for athletes. Sambo wrestling, which originated in Russia, is still not one of the Olympic sports. As far back as 1981, the International Olympic Committee recognized Sambo as an Olympic kind. However, this type of struggle is still not included in the game program. World champion and honored master of sports Sergey Viktorovich Ryabov did not know about these features when he began to engage in wrestling. An understanding of all the sporting and organizational subtleties came later.
The future world champion in sambo wrestling was born on September 23, 1988 in an ordinary urban family. Parents lived in the famous city of Tambov. Father worked on the railway. Mother worked in a garment factory. Sergei from an early age was prepared for an independent life. He always cleaned up his own room. I tried to help my mother in household chores. He began to engage in sports in the lower grades. A new physical education teacher came to school and organized a judo wrestling section. All the boys in the class enrolled in this section.

Sports Achievements and Awards
At first, Sergey felt constrained in training. The coach purposefully set a high pace of warm-up. Then the athletes went over to the strength exercises, and only at the third stage did the struggle begin. Some guys left the section. Ryabov had a similar thought. But gradually he became involved and began to understand the meaning of the techniques. In parallel with judo classes, the coach began to show the techniques of Russian sambo wrestling. At first glance, the differences were small but important. In the Japanese struggle, strangulation is permitted, but in the Russian one it is not. The Japanese fight barefoot, and the Russians in special shoes.
Already in the training process, Sergey began to stand out from the group. In the first tournament for the championship of the city, he won a quick and spectacular victory. The talented wrestler was noticed by coaches from the capital and invited him to the Sambo-70 Moscow club. Sergey’s sports career developed gradually. In 2011, he won a bronze medal at the Russian Sambo Championship. Two years later, he took the first step of the podium. Then he “pulled out” a silver medal at the World Cup. At the championship in 2019, Ryabov “took” gold in the weight category up to 90 kg.
