Rory MacDonald is a mixed-style Canadian fighter. In the ring, he is known as Ares and the Red King. He is the Bellator MMA welterweight champion.
Biography: early years
Rory Joseph MacDonald was born July 22, 1989 in Quanel, in the Canadian province of British Columbia. As a child, he was a shy and insecure boy. According to Rory himself, he was terribly afraid of communicating with unfamiliar people. At school, MacDonald studied with great reluctance, but the sport idolized. With special enthusiasm, he loved to drive football.
As a teenager, Rory became interested in mixed martial arts. He spent a lot of time in training. His labors did not go unnoticed. Soon, he began to show good results for his age.
When Rory was 14 years old, he began to train David Leah, who at that time was considered one of the promising Canadian specialists in mixed martial arts. To do this, MacDonald moved to another city - Kelowna, where the Toshido Fighting Arts Academy training hall was located.
Two years later, Rory made his debut in the professional ring. He brilliantly proved himself in the Extreme Fighting Challenge. Then Rory defeated Terry Tiara thanks to a strangulation. This victory inspired MacDonald, and he continued to work on himself in heavy duty.
Career
In the winter of 2006, Rory fought with his compatriot Ken Tran as part of KOTC Canada: Anarchy. He came out victorious, having carried out the same asphyxiation. At the same time, the enemy was 6 years older than Rory.
In the summer of that year, a duel with Jordan Maine at the Rumble in the Cage tournament took place. And MacDonald won again. After this battle, the King of the Cage organization offered him a work contract on exclusive terms.
Rory won the next two matches and was declared to meet for the KOTC Canada lightweight champion title. His opponent was Cayan Johnson. Rory defeated by technical knockout.
His next opponent was the champion of King of the Cage - lightweight Clame French. In the second round, Rory managed to knock out an opponent. He soon moved to the welterweight, where he also continued to win.
In 2010, MacDonald began to perform in fights conducted by the American organization Ultimate Fighting Championship. He began his performance there with a victory over Mike Guymon.
In June 2010, Rory suffered a debut defeat in a professional ring. His opponent was Carlos Condit. This was followed by a series of five victories.
In 2012, Rory was recognized as the best Canadian fighter of the year. In January 2018, he became the Bellator MMA welterweight and middleweight champion. He confirmed his championship in June 2019.
As of September 2019, Rory had 27 fights in the professional ring. Of these, only 5 fights ended in defeat for him.
